    Rail Vehicle Maintenance

High standards of rail safety and on-time performance are possible only when careful, comprehensive maintenance is practiced. Veolia Transport maintains the vehicles on more than 40 rail networks in Germany, France, Sweden, Australia, Norway and the US. At other properties, we manage partners or sub-contractors that do vehicle maintenance on our behalf. Regardless of the arrangement, we are accustomed to delivering clean, reliable, and well-maintained equipment to ensure that full services are run each day, and passengers can ride in comfort.

When we assume operations and maintenance of a rail system, we assess all equipment and examine maintenance records. Then we database all equipment, and develop maintenance plans for every piece, specifying what procedures need to be completed and when. This structured approach worked especially well in Boston, where we inherited aging equipment that lacked maintenance records.

In Boston we also installed a 24-hour mechanical services desk, provided troubleshooting training for engineers to identify potential problems sooner, upgraded locomotive control systems, and implemented Maximus software to manage fleet maintenance. We introduced ‘Winterization’ and ‘Summerization’ programs to improve equipment reliability. Finally, we collaborated closely with vehicle suppliers to implement rigorous maintenance plans and schedules.

With Veolia Transport in charge, clients and passengers can rest assured that their rail equipment is well maintained for optimum safety, reliability and cleanliness.
