Phoenix UpdatesThursday March 15, 2012 :: Statement from Veolia Transportation Following City Council Vote The Phoenix City Council voted 6-2 this morning to approve a recommendation of the City's transit staff to revise language in its contract with Veolia Transportation. The revisions were developed by transit staff in mid-2011 and make contract performance language consistent with industry norms and Federal Transit Administration requirements that penalties be "fair and reasonable." Current penalty language, which was revised today, was not in line with FTA or industry standards. In 2010, the City Council approved an agreement with Veolia which specified that the penalty language would be changed to comply with FTA standards. The Council's action today completes this process, which had been underway for many months. We are proud of Veolia's on-time performance level in Phoenix which is among the highest in the U.S. at 97% and significantly higher than other providers here in the Valley. We thank Mayor Stanton, City Council and City Staff for their leadership and efforts to get our community moving again. Wednesday Morning March 14, 2012 :: Statement from Veolia Transportation Veolia Transportation is pleased that Mayor Greg Stanton was able to announce this morning that a tentative agreement has been reached between Veolia and ATU Local 1433 representing our bus operators. The parties are meeting this morning to finalize this agreement. We are grateful to Mayor Stanton for his leadership on this issue, as well as the Phoenix City Council, former Chief Justice Ruth McGregor who served as the City’s mediator, the federal mediator, Valley Metro, the ATU 1433, and our dedicated drivers. Most importantly, we want to thank bus riders for enduring what we know has been a difficult week. We are hopeful about the union membership's vote tomorrow, and pending that outcome, we look forward to restoring service in Phoenix and getting the Valley back on the road by Friday morning.
