Serving Special Needs

In all our taxi operations, we provide the elderly and disabled with a large number of trips daily. Typically we operate in close partnership with local government agencies that manage these services for cities and counties. We provide services in regular taxis for certain passengers, but we also have special taxis that are configured to handle wheelchairs.

In Baltimore, we operate the Taxi Access program, a subsidized program providing nearly 800 daily taxi trips to the elderly and handicapped. The passenger carries a card that the driver swipes in the cab and the trip is automatically fed into our system and priced based on pick up and drop off. Customers do not have to pay cash, and the State is billed weekly.

In Denver, we operate the “Mobility Plus” program. Our handicapped accessible vans and sedans provide transportation to medical appointments on behalf of Medicaid and Logisticare (our partners). In Denver, our taxi company acts as the paratransit service provider for Medicaid and Logisticare, and we have close working relationships with many area hospitals and medical centers, including University Hospital, Lutheran, Denver Health, Kaiser, Rose Medical, Exempla and St Anthony’s. We transport passengers to and from Emergency Rooms via direct billing arrangements, and even transport blood and other vital medial supplies between hospitals.

In Kansas City, Yellow Cab was awarded full operation of the paratransit services for the entire city. As a result, Yellow Cab is the exclusive provider of paratransit services for the elderly and handicapped, per the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. We provide approximately 800 trips per day to the people of Kansas City, helping them take advantage of the public transportation services in the city.

In Pittsburgh, Veolia Transportation operates and manages the city’s paratransit system. As a result, our intra-company partnership with Pittsburgh Yellow Cab has brought about many synergies, allowing us to manage our trips and dispatching in a much more effective manner, and providing on demand paratransit service for the city of Pittsburgh as needed.
