APTA 2011 in New Orleans :: The RTA and Veolia are proud to be the host city! This October, New Orleans will proudly be the host city for APTA EXPO 2011. Some 16,000 transit industry delegates will spend several days in New Orleans networking and reviewing all the latest trends, equipment and technology. The Board of Commissioners of the Regional Transit Authority and Veolia are planning a warm welcome for APTA delegates! Veolia reports to the Board of Commissioners of the New Orleans RTA, which sets the overall direction for the RTA. The RTA Board is responsible for establishing RTA policies including fares, service and operations, as well as approval of each year's annual transportation development plan and budget.
A great deal of activity is already underway, with Veolia's teams working closely with the APTA staff and the RTA Board. Our people are planning the shuttle routes for the buses that will transport people from the APTA hotels to the Convention Center. They will be providing registered APTA Meeting delegates with passes to ride New Orleans' famous streetcar lines as well as the bus routes. They will have a booth near registration that will provide support and answers to questions about the City and how to get around. They are planning various tours, including a very special one of the Carrollton facility, where the streetcars are maintained using techniques and tools from over 100 years ago, -- which is what is required in order for the streetcars to preserver their status as National Historic Landmarks. On behalf of all of us at Veolia and the RTA Board of Commissioners we would like to say that we are excited to welcome our industry colleagues to APTA this fall, and look forward to a great time.
